Glow which never fades
The Pitch darkness all around, no semblance of light. It was no man's land, middle of a huge coffee estate. It was a late summer night, warmth in the air. Nocturnal chorus of crickets and insects buzzing, Dogs in the estate after tiring day of running, barking and playing are fast asleep. During the day time, stream is hardly heard, now in the silence of the night the gentle flow is heard. I always wonder how everything changes in the darkness and silence of the night? In the city, we aren't used to the silence or darkness or stillness too. We both held our hands and reached the patio of the house, careful enough not to step on anything..He whispered into my ears? Do you know why crickets are buzzing? And we both laughed!
There we sat on the steps bundled up in each other's arms may be high on absinthe.
What was that? I just saw? I can't believe my eyes.. something so beautiful. In that darkness, came a soft glow..a gentle light and there was sudden flash of light may be hundreds and thousands of lights flashing..It was magical, as if a special show was planned for us by the universe! The Fireflies!!!! I had only heard of them never knew they could be this magical and what a setting to have witnessed such a terrific beauty.
This was probably 14 years ago, and strangely enough we never spoke of that evening ever again. It was lost in all the noise and light. In this darkness again, on the eve of his birthday my hippocampus dug out such an intensely beautiful memory and it feels like I was there bundled up in his arms.
Long after the fireflies disappeared, it left a trail of pale, faint glow hovering around me just like you disappeared. My eyes could see the flash and the disappearing glow. In this thick darkness of grief, let your light never fade on me. Your faint glow remains just like the firefly beyond my grasp. I am thankful to the Divine for the fireflies and you.
